Science
This year, we will be teaching science through an inquiry-based learning model. Students will be learning through hands-on science kits and investigating physical, earth/space, and life science skills. We will be presenting the following units of study:
Physical Science
This topic focuses on the conservation of matter
and the processes of energy transfer and
transformation, especially as they relate to heat
and electrical energy.
Earth/Space Science
In this unit, we will focus on the variety of processes that
shape and reshape Earth’s surface.
Life Science
With life science, we will focus on using fossil evidence and living organisms to observe that suitable habitats depend upon a combination of biotic and abiotic
factors.
Scientific Method
These are the science process skills that are embedded in every scientific investigation. Students will be practicing this inquiry process throughout the year. I will also be incorporating the 5 E's of Science.
How to help your child
I recommend that your child check out library books on these topics and investigate related web sites. I also suggest that you encourage your child to continuously ask questions about the world around them. Science is a process skill that is best learned through experimentation and observation. If children have the opportunity to investigate relevant problems and disparities in their everyday world, they will develop a natural interest in science.
